What’s With Microchanneling?

Now that you’ve come to the darkside after choosing microchanneling over microneedling (you did read our other blog, right?), we can help solidify that choice by giving you all the details on microchanneling to see if it’s a procedure right for you (hint hint, it totally is!)

How does the procedure work?

At 614 Beauty, we use the Procell Microchanneling treatment. This procedure is designed to boost collagen to the problem skin area by using the body’s natural healing ability to stimulate the production of collagen that is lost in the aging process and we are firmly team collagen.

The treatment begins with a special topical growth serum that has some kick-ass properties unique to this procedure. It’s applied to the skin and is then penetrated deep into the skin layers by the use of the microchanneling device adjusted to the depth appropriate for the skin’s needs. The device consists of hollow micro needles (smaller than human hair!) attached to a stamping device which is tapped across the skin creating microchannels for which the super serum can penetrate the deeper layers of skin. At the sake of sounding sciency (is that a word?), this serum enters the channels and introduces mesenchymal stem cells, which are cells that typically repair skeletal tissue, and cytokines, which are crucial to the growth of certain cells to your skin. These two things interact with your cellular DNA to encourage the skin cells to replicate and repair. This helps the skin appear younger and reduces/elimantes the problem areas. The great thing about it? The procedure is virtually painless! I know you thought after I went all sciency that it sounded kind of painful, yeah? Nope!

What are the benefits?

Microchanneling is great for a variety of skin issues including:

Acne scarring

Other scarring

Sun damage

Dark spots

Fine lines

Wrinkles

Stretch marks

Large pores

Rosacea

Uneven skin tone/texture

How many sessions does it take to see results?

Depending on the skin issue you are hoping to correct (acne scarring tends to require more than other problem areas), most clients see results with 3-4 sessions when following their at home skin care routines (so listen to your artist!).

You can discuss your treatment series with your skincare professional to determine the amount of treatments and the frequency of those treatments. They can be performed 4-6 weeks apart depending on the problem area.

What is the after care like?

Post treatment the skin may feel tight and feel as if you have a mild sunburn for a few hours. To ensure your skin stays safe and the procedure is allowed to work its magic, there are a few after care essentials to follow:

Things to avoid:

For the first 90 minutes don’t touch your face

No makeup for at least 6 hours after treatment

No heavy exercise for at least 3 days after treatment (this includes swimming)

Don’t exfoliate for at least 7 days after treatment

Stay away from direct sunlight for at least 7 days after treatment

Avoid any anti-inflammatory medication both before and after treatment

Things to do:

Wear skin protection in the sun

Continue good skin care routine (after the first 6 hours of course)

How long does the effects of the treatment last?

After your treatment your body will be building up the collagen needed to repair the damages so it will take some time before you see results. Most clients see a noticeable difference 15-20 days post treatment. The results can last years (typically 2-10 after final treatment) depending on the age and lifestyle of the client. Hell yeah, I’ll take a treatment that lasts that long!
